The scarf dates back to ancient Rome in which it was worn by people to wipe sweat from their faces and necks.  It was called ’sudarium’ a Latin term meaning ’sweat cloth’.  Originally the scarf was made out of cloth, but today scarves are made out of many types of materials such as silk, wool, or cotton.  Scarves went on to be worn by men in France to indicate political inclination which was defined by the color of the scarf.  By the 19th century scarves were being worn as a fashion accessory by men, women, and children all over the world.  Now the scarf is most popular as a ‘must have’ accessory in women’s fashion and can often be seen on societies’ celebrities.

Scarves can potentially cost over one hundred dollars, but you don’t need a hundred dollar scarf to accessorize or accent your outfit. You can find a variety of scarves for just under $10.00.  Scarves can be used for more than just a neck ornament, though this is a common way to wear it. Scarves are a flexible accessory and can also be worn as belts, headbands, wraps, and even tied around the strap of a handbag!  Here, Lindsay Sakiewicz models several ways to accessorize a scarf to fit your style.
