Five Ideas for Fall Themed Fun

With Halloween just around the corner, there are many fun things you can do to get in the spirit. So the next time you or your friends are looking for something to do, instead of sticking to your usual mundane activities, try some of these seasonal ideas to celebrate the fall.

1.      Carve a pumpkin. It may sound cliché or outdated, but there’s just something amusing about scraping the guts out of a big, plump pumpkin. You could even take a trip to a pumpkin patch to pick one out, or make a competition out of it. If you need some help, visit Michael’s Arts & Crafts and pick up some stencils and supplies.

2.      Make fall decorated desserts. What’s better than freshly baked cookies or cupcakes? Freshly baked cookies or cupcakes decorated for Halloween. Check out Target to find a large selection of Halloween colored icing, sprinkles, and cupcake liners, even cute fall cookie cutters. Look to the bottom of the article for the Halloween recipe I tried, Graveyard Pudding Dessert.

3.      Have a scary movie party. A horror movie marathon is one of the easiest ways to get into the Halloween spirit. Invite some friends over, share some of your Halloween desserts, and prepare to scream. The Shining, the Exorcist, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Halloween are guaranteed to give you nightmares. After you’ve had your fill of horror movies, watch the funny parody Scary Movie to mix it up a little.

4.      Get a Halloween costume. No matter how old you are, you are never too old to dress up and go around ringing strangers’ doorbells begging for candy. Or if trick or treating isn’t your style, throw a costume party. Party City has a large selection of costumes, but throwing your own together can be both cheaper and hilarious.

5.      Go to a haunted house. Nothing says Halloween more than a haunted house, and we all love a good scare every once in a while. So wait until it gets dark, grab some friends, and head down to the Clayton Fear Farm- it comes highly recommended and is guaranteed to scare just about anyone.

Graveyard Pudding Dessert

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Refrigerating Time: 1 hour

Ingredients: 3 ½ cups cold milk, 2 packages (4 serving size) JELL-O Chocolate Flavor Instant Pudding, 1 tub (12 ounces) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping thawed, 1 package (16 ounces) chocolate graham crackers crushed, and decorations (Milano cookies, candy corn, and candy pumpkins).

Directions: Pour milk into large bowl. Add pudding mixes. Beat with wire whisk or electric mixer on lowest speed 2 minutes or until blended. Gently stir in whipped topping and ½ of the crushed cookies. Spoon into 13×9 inch dish. Sprinkle with remaining cookies.

Refrigerate 1 hour or until ready to serve. Decorate Milanos with icing to make “tombstones”. Stand tombstones on top of dessert with candies to resemble a graveyard.
