Knightdale and Clayton at the line of scrimmage

Knightdale and Clayton at the line of scrimmage

On October 29, Knightdale had its senior night versus the Clayton Comets.  Knightdale High had sixteen seniors, all of whom have contributed tremendously over the past four years, helping to build the football program. The game was played on Thursday due to a teacher workday on Friday. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all of the players wore pink socks.

With their spirits high, Knightdale had high expectations of a win.  Devin Johnson, a KHS Junior, received a 16 yard pass to score the first touchdown of the game. However, Knightdale’s defense couldn’t hold up and Clayton scored, 7-7, at the half.
After a crowd rallying band performance, Knightdale came back out giving everything they could to achieve their first win.  Clayton reached the 41 yard line and decided to kick the field goal, making the score 10-7.  Knightdale High’s senior standout, Terrance Davis, scored a 45 yard run at the fourth, raising the Knightdale score to 14-10.  Knightdale had the choice of getting the first down or kicking the field goal;  Knightdale chose to go for the first down, and had an incomplete pass.  Clayton scored once more and the momentum of Knightdale went downhill.
Knightdale football players were every emotional after the game, many mourning over their tenth loss.  Coach Johnson was loss for words of how great his team played.  “It is just an unfortunate record, it was a tough loss on senior night.” The Knights put their hearts and soul into the game and unfortunately went back home with a loss.

Knightdale Standouts:
Terrance Davis: 124 yards rushing
Aaron Smith: 26 yards receiving
Kelly Frizzelle: 6.5 tackles
Adrian McDowell: 6 tackles
