Garrett See knows that his pig Blue is the #1 pig in NC.

Have you ever seen the Westminster Dog Show?  The owners parade their dogs around, get them to perform tricks, and show the judges how well-mannered and obedient their dogs are.  Well, imagine doing this with a pig!   That is exactly was KHS student Garrett See did at the NC State Fair and the results were extraordinary.

At the NC State Fair Pig Show, See entered his two pigs, Viren and Blue, and Blue was named the champion pig in all of North Carolina.  In fact, it was the second year See has won the competition saying, “I was kind of defending my title.”

According to See, the contest was about “how well you display your animal to the judges.”

Owners have a whip, cane, or pipe and use it to walk around the animal.  Then a judge asks questions such as “what you feed it, how much it weighs, what you like about it, and then asks you to pen it.”   Judges then take a side, rear, and front view of the pig, rub and touch it, and then ask the owner to put the pig through an obstacle course.

When asked how he prepared for the competition, See replied, “If you spend a lot of time training and preparing for this, you are bound to do well.”  Every other day, See walks and oils them, making their bodies shine.”

See beat out 75 other competitors to win his second state title in the last three years.  If you sight See in the hallways of KHS, wish him congratulations on a job well done.
