Its that time of year – basketball season is finally here! JV boys’ basketball Coach Byrd was amazed about how many players came to try out for the team this year. “We had about 50 to 60 kids, it was the largest turnout since the opening of the school”. Even though the season is about to start, the team is still seeking its 15th player. “Practices are going good, but once we get our 15th player we will be set”.

Part of the reason for the missing player is a result of academic concerns. “Discipline is very strict; we like our kids to have a least a 2.5 grade point average, kids with a 1.5 or lower would be off the team by January”.

Basketball is fun to watch, but what’s basketball without rivalry? “East Wake and South East Raleigh’s (competition) makes everybody take their game to another level”. Overall, Coach Byrd is very optimistic about the upcoming season. “We should be a pretty good basketball team this year; if we get 18 wins, then I’ll be happy”, said a smiling Coach Byrd.

The JV Knights are currently 2-2 this season. The team schedule consists of 21 games. Come out and support your Knights!
