The Not So Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones, based off the best-selling novel by Alice Sebold, is a supernatural drama/thriller that failed to live up to its expectations. The movie focuses on Susie Salmon, who was murdered at the age of fourteen by a seemingly normal and friendly neighbor. In the afterlife, Susie remains haunted by her murder and is not able to move past her death and proceed to Heaven. Instead, she remains in the “In Between”, watching over her family and pointing them towards her murderer’s identity.

The film seems to drag on, lasting over two hours with a confusing and often bizarre plot. The scenes alternate between following the lives of Susie’s family as they try to cope with her death, and her own journey through the afterlife. The highlight of the movie is an intense moment when Susie’s sister comes dangerously close to being caught by the murderer, while the rest of it is simply dull or incredibly strange.

Unless unusual fantasies are your thing, The Lovely Bones is a major disappointment. It lacks a strong plot and often doesn’t make sense; even the ending fails to tie up the loose ends. Nicole Eddins, a freshman at Knightdale, remarks, “It looked really good in the commercials, but it was just too weird for me, and a lot of parts were really confusing.” While it was an interesting take on a murder story, the peculiarity of it and the many missing plot pieces cause the interpretation on such a highly acclaimed novel to fail miserably.

Sounding like a true critic, remind me not to let you look at my work. I do feel that maybe you could have aimed for a few more postive things about the movie, it seems very one sided but thats just me. Overall a good review without damaging it by giving to much info
